Mission Statement
The British Columbia Play Therapy Association (BCPTA) promotes the advancement, training, credentialing, and ethical evidence-based practice of play and child therapists. Through our dedication to the principles of anti-racism and inclusion, the BCPTA aims to foster a community of play therapy professionals who are committed to providing equitable, accessible, and culturally sensitive services to individuals in need. Together, we strive to promote healing, growth, and resilience through the power of play.
Founded in 1993, the British Columbia Play Therapy Association (BCPTA) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to promoting play therapy. We organize a variety of in-person and online events, including workshops, conferences, supervision groups, play cafés, and more recently, book clubs.
Our credentialing program offers two designations: BC Registered Play Therapist (BCRPT) and BC Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (BCRPT-S).
Our members include counsellors, school counsellors, social workers, psychologists, and other professionals who work with children. Annual membership fees provide discounts on events and free entry to Play Cafés.
At BCPTA, our mission is to advance play therapy in British Columbia by:
- Fostering the professional development of play therapists within a supportive community.
- Promoting equitable, accessible, and culturally sensitive services.
- Encouraging sound play therapy practices that support healing, growth, and resilience through play.
- Upholding high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
- Collaborating with other professional organizations.
- Advocating for the emotional well-being of children.
We are deeply grateful to both our local and international presenters for sharing their knowledge, insight, and experience, and for helping to promote play therapy learning in British Columbia.
